    Overview

    Interview Summary
    Evgeniy Ivanovich Rtishchev, born in 1927 in Mostovskoy in the former Soviet Union, describes the Jewish refugees from Ukraine who arrived prior to the German occupation; a Jewish family who lived in his building for about a month; witnessing the murder of a partisan member; watching approximately 30 Jewish men, women, and children being loaded into a wagon guarded by two armed German soldiers; following the wagon to the Laba River; watching from a nearby knoll as some Jews were handed shovels and ordered to dig a pit; hearing someone shout a warning in Russian, then watching as the two German soldiers shot all the Jews with automatic rifles; and the burial of the bodies in the pit.

    This is a witness interview of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's Perpetrators, Collaborators, and Witnesses: The Jeff and Toby Herr Testimony Initiative, a multi-year project to record the testimonies of non-Jewish witnesses to the Holocaust.
