    Interview Summary
    Ben Stern discusses his experiences during the Holocaust; living in the Warsaw ghetto; being deported from the ghetto in August 1942, first to Treblinka and then to Majdanek concentration camps; volunteering to be transferred to Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1943; his experiences there; the evacuation of the camp in January 1945 and the subsequent death march to Buchenwald; working in quarries at Buchenwald until the liberation of the camp in April 1945; being moved to a displaced persons camp, where he met his wife; their immigration to the United States in May 1946; his life, work, and family life in Chicago and Skokie, Illinois; his reflections on the singularity of Holocaust experience for survivors; and the relief he felt sharing experiences with other survivors at the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors, where the interview took place.
