    Interview Summary
    Karel Vašiček, born in 1932 in Lipa in Czechoslovakia (Czech Republic), describes the prewar Jewish community of Lipa; a concentration camp outside of Lipa and the transports that brought Jews to the camp; conditions in the camp, including the forced labor of Jews; his parents' work at the camp site; the relocation of a selection of Jews from the camp by a German SS officer; and how Jews from the camp were used to help put out a fire in the village.

    This is a witness interview of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's Perpetrators, Collaborators, and Witnesses: The Jeff and Toby Herr Testimony Initiative, a multi-year project to record the testimonies of non-Jewish witnesses to the Holocaust. The interview was directed and supervised by Nathan Beyrak.
