    Interview Summary
    The interviews describe Ms. Batzdorff's childhood in Breslau, Germany; her memories of the ascent to power of the Nazi Party in 1933; the effects of anti-Jewish laws; and the difficulties of the antisemitism she experienced in school. Ms. Batzdorff describes her parents' medical practice; the loss of their medical licenses due to antisemitic laws; and her father's immigration to the United States in 1938. She discusses the events of Kristallnacht in November 1938; learning that her father had obtained visas for his family; and their immigration to the United States in February 1939. Ms. Batzdorff describes her experiences in New York City as a new emigrant; her education, marriage, family; and her career as a librarian.

    The Bay Area Holocaust Oral History Project conducted the interview with Susanne M. Batzdorff on April 7, 1994. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum received the tapes of the interview from the Bay Area Holocaust Oral History Project in October 2002.
