    Walter Wohlfeiler, born on August 3, 1923 in Vienna, Austria, discusses his childhood in Vienna; his assimilated family life; his education; his early experiences with antisemitism; his experiences during the Anschluss in March 1938 and his negative feelings about his future in Austria; the changes he experienced in school after that time, including increased antisemitism and violence against Jewish students by members of the Hitler Youth; his experiences during Kristallnacht in November 1938; his arrest and release; his family's decision to leave Austria; his father's deportation to Nisko, Poland in October 1939; his departure from Vienna with his mother; their voyage to the United States; and his life in the US during and after the war, including his work and family.
