    Interview Summary
    Sandra Weiss (née Gamss), born in 1936 in Urzejowice, Poland, discusses her childhood in Urzejowice; her religious upbringing; her family life; the changes she experienced as a very young child after the German invasion of her town; her family's decision to go into hiding in the spring of 1942; the help they received from local Polish farmers; her experiences while living in hiding in a farmer's attic; the starvation they experienced; her departure from there in the spring of 1944 after liberation by the Soviet Army; her poor health from the conditions in the attic; her return with her father to their home and his decision to seek shelter in displaced persons (DP) camps, including the camp in Cremona, Italy; the conditions in the DP camp and her experiences there; her father's decision to immigrate to the United States in 1949; her experiences in postwar New York City; her life in the US; the emotional aftermath of her wartime experiences; and the fates of other family members.
