    Vladislavs Novickis, born in 1929 in Daugavpils, Latvia, describes the prewar Jewish community of Daugavpils; the deportations of local Jews; his employment; hearing gunfire from a mass shooting of Jews; the treatment of the Jewish population by local townspeople during the war; and his Jewish friend who went into hiding and survived the war.

    This is a witness interview of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's Perpetrators, Collaborators, and Witnesses: The Jeff and Toby Herr Testimony Initiative, a multi-year project to record the testimonies of non-Jewish witnesses to the Holocaust. The interview was directed and supervised by Nathan Beyrak. The interview was conducted with Vladislavs Novickis in Latvia for the Latvia Documentation Project on November 25, 2004. The interview was received by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives Branch in January 2006.
