- Summary
- On October 22, 1940, the Gestapo deported more than 6,500 Jews from Baden, the Palatinate and the Saarland to southern France. A photo series documents the events of that day in Ludwigshafen, one of three collection points in the Palatinate. From there, 420 men, women and children were deported. With 21 images, the series is one of the most comprehensive photographic records of a deportation from Germany. The volume is dedicated to this special source of images of the National Socialist persecution of Jews and, where possible, names the victims. It also presents new findings about the context and course of the deportation as well as the transmission and use of the images.
