    Interview Summary
    Izio Rosenman, born in Demblin, Poland, describes being deported at the age of seven with four other members of his family; being taken with his father to Buchenwald in early 1945; his father’s death; going to France, where he received assistance from the OSE (Oeuvre de Secours aux Enfants); living in several children's homes and his positive experience with various educators; reuniting with his mother and sisters in Paris in 1953; attending the L'école Gilbert Bloch d'Orsay from 1953 to 1959; learning about modern Judaism; his reflections on the Holocaust, which led him to break from his religion; completing a doctorate in physics; joining the CNRS as a physicist; founding associations dedicated to the development and dissemination of secular Jewish culture; and engaging with organizations that seek Israeli-Palestinian peace.

    Provenance
    Isabelle Pleskoff, head librarian at the Musée d'art et d'histoire du judaïsme (Mahj), donated video recordings of Holocaust presentations and interviews produced by the Mahj to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in October 2015. The interview was conducted on May 4, 2014 and the original French title is "Culture juive laïque et engagement politique avec Izio Rosenman."
