- Isabelle Pleskoff, head librarian at the Musée d'art et d'histoire du judaïsme (Mahj), donated video recordings of Holocaust presentations and interviews produced by the Mahj to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in October 2015. Josy Adida-Goldberg, born in Constantine, Algeria in 1929, discusses living with her family in the European district; her great-grandfather Solomon, who was a native of Tétouan, Morocco and created the Talmud Torah school in 1912; her career teaching literature and theater; and her book, Les Deux Pères (published 2008), which describes her Jewish life in Constantine, her friendship with men of letters (including Francis Ponge and Emmanuel Roblès), the pogrom of 1934, the rise of anti-Jewish laws, the repeal of the Décret Crémieux, and the first attacks of the war in Algeria.

Élie-Lucien Uzan, born in Tunis, Tunisia in 1924, describes his Livornese Jewish mother; his Tunisian Jewish father, who volunteered for the French Army in 1915; his childhood; hearing stories about the Dreyfus Affair and the First World War; how his father agreed to follow the Jewish tradition at home, even though he was an atheist; World War II and the presence of the Germans in Tunisia; enrolling in a labor camp in Kairouan (Qayrawān) and escaping; being mobilized and fighting on the Tunisian front in the infantry and in aviation; becoming involved in the Tunisian Communist Party after the war; his several jobs; and being repatriated in 1959.

Jim Kaliski describes growing up in Etterbeek, Belgium; his Polish Jewish family; how in 1942, at the age of thirteen, he accompanied his father in all his movements; listening to Yiddish conversations and hearing the despair of the people and their sense of abandonment; his father’s deportation in February 1944 and death in Auschwitz; his readings and conversations about the Holocaust; being encouraged to draw by his sister Sarah, who is a painter; working with ink and combining writing and drawing; and expanding the subject matter of his work to represent the persecution of other people such as the Armenians.

Janine Gerson-Père discusses her parents, Jo and Bella Gerson, who left Salonika, Greece in 1930 and settled in Paris, France in the district of la Roquette (in the 11th Arrondissement); the Greek and Turkish Jewish community in their neighborhood; the deportation of her father during WWII; the hardships her mother endured during the Holocaust, which left silent about that period; questioning her mother about her experiences during the war and how this helped her mother find peace; visiting the places where she was hiding with her brother during the occupation; learning about the experiences of her cousins; beginning to tell the story of her family by attending writing workshops; regaining her cultural identity; and being driven to revive the Salonicienne community, which was almost completely destroyed.

Cécile Reims, born in 1927 in Paris, France, describes her early childhood in Lithuania; growing up in a traditional Jewish family; joining her father in France in 1933; the outbreak of the war; finding refuge in Castres; drawing often during the war; discovering after the war that her entire Lithuanian family had perished; her consequential meeting with the writer Joseph Hecht and learning the technique of engraving; how her artistic endeavors did not seem sufficient given the devastation of the Holocaust and joining an underground Jewish group (Organisation juive de combat) that sought refuge in Palestine; returning to France after contracting tuberculosis; resuming her printmaking in Paris; meeting Fred Deux in 1951; turning to weaving and writing in the 1960s; and returning eventually to engraving.

Simon Malkès, born in 1927 in a traditional Zionist family, discusses growing up in Vilnius, Lithuania; his Jewish life, including the religious, cultural, and political aspects; the Jewish community in Vilnius, including the printers, educational network, synagogues, library, and the YIVO (Yidisher visnshaftlekher institute); his father, who founded a power plant; the outbreak of the war; the confinement of Jews to the ghetto; the terrible conditions in the ghetto; the Aktions and execution of Jews in the surrounding woods; the Wehrmacht major, Karl Plagge, who created HKP labor camp in September 1943, weeks before the liquidation of the ghetto; working in the camp for two years, believing it would save him from death; hiding with his parents for several days in a cellar in July 1944; and the posthumous bestowing of the title of Righteous of Nations on Plagge in 2005.

Liliane Klein-Lieber, born in Strasbourg, France in 1924, discusses joining the Jewish Scouts of France (EIF) in 1931; feeling that the movement was like having a second family; the EIF clandestine network during the war; participating with the resistance group Sixième in August 1942 during the air raids in the southern zone; how the EIF network was charged with hiding teens in danger and to maintain contact with each other; the relocation of youths to Switzerland through the network of Georges Loinger; helping to found the Coopération féminine in 1960; and the establishment of a help center for those with mild mental handicaps by the Coopération feminine in 1991.
