    Description
    The collection includes three photograph albums of the Colberg family, including Bernhardt Colberg, a member of Reserve Police Battalion 101, a unit of the German Order Police. The unit was responsible for rounding up Jews for deportation to killing centers in occupied Poland and for the guarding and liquidation of ghettos.

    The albums include prewar and wartime photographs of the family’s daily life in Germany, including Hamburg and Berlin. Reserve Police Battalion 101 photographs include battalion members in Poland, members in uniform performing official duties and off duty in their barracks, visits from officials, and of the Lodz ghetto. Also included are photographs of Colberg postwar in the British zone.

    Biography
    Bernhardt Colberg (b. 1900) was born in Germany and was a member of Reserve Police Battalion 101 from October 1940 until April 1941. After the war, he served as a policeman in the British zone in Germany.
