The last refuge the story of Jewish refugees in Shanghai / Noxi Productions ; a film by Xiao-hong Cheng and Noriko Sawada ; written by Xiao-hong Cheng.
Between 1938 and 1942, about 18,000 Jews found refuge in Shanghai, China, the only place in the world that required no entry visas or permits. In an unfamiliar city under Japanese occupation the Jewish refugees went through some of the most extraordinary experiences of their lives: the hardship of wartime Shanghai; surviving the Japanese ghetto; and the moment of liberation. Their experiences are revealed in this film through survivors' first-person accounts, scholarly analysis, and historical stock footage.
