520     This study explored the effects of the Holocaust on the survivors as older adults and the effects this traumatic event has on the aging process, as perceived by the professional counselors who work with this population. This study also examined the counselors' perceptions of symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder within Holocaust survivors, as well as their observed coping mechanisms and areas of strength. The study also explored counselors' perceptions of the effects of the aging process on Holocaust survivors' relationships with their family members. A qualitative research study was used to conduct face-to-face interviews with 13 professional counselors who work with Holocaust survivors.  The results of this study indicated that the past trauma that the survivors experienced has an effect on them and their children as they age. Holocaust survivors utilize a variety of strengths and coping methods that assist them as they age.
