It is not a documentary on Nazism or the horrors of the Shoah. Instead, through a series of still photos and film excerpts, Zahor celebrates the life of those who are usually mentioned only as victims, and gives them back their dignity and identities as living, loving, laughing and fighting human beings. Following a loose historical thread, and with a text made almost entirely of excerpts of messages and poems (some written by the very people on the photographs), it tries to grasp the living presence of men, women and children of a people whose entire existence was meant to be erased. 500 This film was made possible through the generous friendship of Paloma Picasso. 586 Gold Hugo Award: Best Documentary, 1996, Chicago International Film Festival. 586 Best Documentary, History/Biography: 1996, USA Film Fest. 586 Director's Choice Award, 1997, Black Maria Film Festival, Jersey City. 546 English, Hebrew & Yiddish, English subtitles. 591 Record updated by Marcive processing 21 June 2024 650 0 Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945) |vPersonal narratives. 650 0 Holocaust survivors |vInterviews. 650 0 Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945) |zFrance. 655 7 Documentary films. |2lcgft 655 7 Nonfiction films. |2lcgft 655 7 Video recordings. |2lcgft 655 7 Personal narratives. |2lcgft 655 7 Interviews. |2lcgft 700 1 Rousso-Lenoir, Fabienne. 700 1 Picasso, Paloma, |d1949- 700 1 Josse, Bernard. 710 2 National Center for Jewish Film. 994 C0 |bLHM 852 8 |bdvd |hDVD-0983 |zFiled by number.
