In Oct. 1936, two years before the Nazi annexation of Austria, Leonidas Tachezy, a high official in the Austrian Ministry of Education receives a letter written in pale blue ink in a feminine hand, asking for his help. Vera Wormser, the letter writer, is a German Jew with whom Leonidas had an affair in 1925. Now she is asking for his help in placing an 11-year-old boy who is half Jewish in a good Austrian school, something that has become impossible to do in Germany. Based on a novella by Franz Werfel.
