As a French Jew, he lived in France during the World War II occupation by the Nazis. Because he expierenced the humiliation, Camille felt compelled to escape to fight the Nazi scourge. Thus, his harrowing near-death experience crossing the Pyrennes Mountains. Upon emerging in Spain, he was detained and imprisonered and eventually connected with the French military in Morocco, North Africa. His regiment spearheaded the U.S. Fifth Army's liberation of northern Italy and then France itself. He was twice wounded. In Paris, he reconnected with Annette, who had also experienced a harrowing escape. She had participated in the "French Resistance". After the war, Camille finished his engineering degree and he and Annette married. They came the United States and eventually settled in Tarzana, California." --Back cover 591 Record updated by Marcive processing 21 June 2024 650 0 World War, 1939-1945 |zFrance |vPersonal narratives. 650 0 World War, 1939-1945 |zItaly |vPersonal narratives. 650 0 World War, 1939-1945 |xJews |zFrance |vPersonal narratives. 651 0 France |xHistory |yGerman occupation, 1940-1945 |vPersonal narratives. 611 27 German Occupation of France (1940-1945) |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01353176 611 27 World War (1939-1945) |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01180924 650 7 Jews. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst00983135 651 7 France. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01204289 651 7 Italy. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01204565 648 7 1939-1945 |2fast 655 7 History. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01411628 655 7 Personal narratives. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01423843 655 7 Biographies. |2lcgft 655 7 Personal narratives. |2lcgft 700 1 Speisman, Camille, |eauthor. 700 1 Blamont-Newman, Katsy, |etranslator. 852 0 |bstacks |hDC397 |i.S64 2013
