After his capture and imprisonment by the Nazis at Auschwitz concentration camp in 1940, at the age of 23, he was forced to take "identity pictures" of between approximately 40,000 to 50,000 other inmates between 1940 and 1945. With "courage and skill," documenting "cruelty which goes beyond all words ... for future generations," after his liberation at the end of World War II, Brasse "could not continue with his profession" and would never take another photograph. In Portrecista Brasse relates the "story behind some pictures in the [Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum] archives that he remembers taking, "which is "illustrated with archive stock and iconography."--Wikipedia. 591 Record updated by Marcive processing 21 June 2024 600 10 Brasse, Wilhelm, |d1917-2012. 650 0 Photographers |zPoland |vBiography. 650 0 Photographers |zPoland |vPortraits. 610 20 Auschwitz (Concentration camp) 650 0 Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945) |zPoland. 650 0 World War, 1939-1945 |xConcentration camps |zPoland. 650 0 Jews |xPersecutions. 650 0 Holocaust survivors |vInterviews. 600 17 Brasse, Wilhelm, |d1917-2012. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01912085 610 27 Auschwitz (Concentration camp) |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst00723014 611 07 Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945) |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst00958866 611 27 World War (1939-1945) |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01180924 650 7 Concentration camps. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst00872933 650 7 Holocaust survivors. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst00958838 650 7 Jews |xPersecutions. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst00983322 650 7 Photographers. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01061605 651 7 Poland. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01206891 648 7 1939 - 1945 |2fast 655 7 Video recordings. |2lcgft 655 7 Biographies. |2lcgft 655 7 Portraits. |2lcgft 655 7 Interviews. |2lcgft 700 1 Dobrowolski, Ireneusz. 700 1 Dobrowolska, Anna. 710 2 Rekontrplan Film Group. 852 8 |bdvd |hDVD-1249 |zFiled by number.
