    Summary
Victor Martin, a non-Jewish Belgian professor active in the Belgian underground was sent by the Comité de Défense des Juifs en Belgique to investigate the fate of deported Belgian Jews. Under the pretense of consultations to be conducted as part of academic research, he obtained permission to travel to Berlin and Breslau, February 4-20, 1943. From there he went on to Katowice and Sosnowiec, Poland, gathering information about the mass exterminations taking place at Auschwitz concentration camp. He was imprisoned at Radwitz camp, escaped, and returned to Belgium where he delivered his report and went underground.
