At it's peak, this "Soviet Zion," where the official language was Yiddish, attracted more than 5,000 foreign Jewish migrants from all over the world. Did Jewish pioneers come up with this idea and get approval from Stalin or did the Soviet dictator have his own reasons for supporting this migration? Belgian filmmaker Guy-Marc Hinant went to Birobidzhan, the former capitol, to ask these questions and explore this remarkable slice of history. What's left of Jewish culture there and who's living in the city now? Hinant focuses on the now-elderly people whose parents settled there and finds their memories tell a very different story from what is seen in the city today--Container. 546 In Russian and Yiddish with subtitles in French and English. 591 Record updated by Marcive processing 21 June 2024 650 0 Jews |zRussia (Federation) |zBirobidzhan. 651 0 Birobidzhan (Russia) |xHistory. 651 0 Evreĭskai͡a avtonomnai͡a oblastʹ (Russia) 650 7 Jews. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst00983135 651 7 Russia (Federation) |zBirobidzhan. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01212374 651 7 Russia (Federation) |zEvreĭskai͡a avtonomnai͡a oblastʹ. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01224399 655 7 Documentary films. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01710390 655 7 Feature films. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01710384 655 7 History. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01411628 655 7 Nonfiction films. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01710269 655 7 Documentary films. |2lcgft 655 7 Nonfiction films. |2lcgft 655 7 Feature films. |2lcgft 655 7 Video recordings. |2lcgft 700 1 Hinant, Guy Marc, |efilm director. 710 2 Riche, Riche & Riche (Firm), |eproduction company. 710 2 Wallonie Image Production, |eproduction company. 710 2 Seventh Art Releasing (Firm), |efilm distributor. 880 10 |6245-01/rביראבידזשאן = |bBirobidjan : le nid est tombé dans les flammes / |cun film de Guy-Marc Hinant. 852 8 |bdvd |hDVD-1411 |zFiled by number.
