"The Bund", as they called their group, had lofty aspirations: under the direction of their leader Artur Jacobs, its members hoped to forge an ideal community that would serve as a model for society at large. But with the ascent of the Nazis, the Bund's activities ranged from visiting devastated Jewish families after Kristallnacht, to sending illicit letters and parcels of food and clothes to deportees in concentration camps, to sheltering political dissidents and Jews on the run. Drawing on previously unpublished letters, diaries, Gestapo reports, and his own interviews with survivors, Roseman shows how and why the Bund undertook its dangerous work. -- adapted from jacket 591 Record updated by Marcive processing 21 June 2024 610 20 Bund--Gemeinschaft für Sozialistisches Leben |xHistory. 650 0 Jews |zGermany |xHistory |y1933-1945. 650 0 Anti-Nazi movement |xHistory. 650 0 World War, 1939-1945 |xJews |xRescue |zGermany. 650 0 Government, Resistance to |zGermany |xHistory |y20th century. 650 0 Socialists |zGermany |xHistory |y20th century. 651 0 Germany |xHistory |y1933-1945. 610 27 Bund--Gemeinschaft für Sozialistisches Leben. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst00660081 611 27 Jews rescue (1939-1945 : World War) |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01710189 611 27 World War (1939-1945) |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01180924 650 7 Anti-Nazi movement. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst00810297 650 7 Government, Resistance to. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst00945663 650 7 Socialists. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01123754 651 7 Germany. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01210272 650 0 World War, 1939-1945 |xUnderground movements. 650 0 World War, 1939-1945 |xJews |xRescue. 650 0 Government, Resistance to |zGermany |xHistory. 650 0 Socialists. 648 7 1900-1999 |2fast 655 7 History. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01411628 852 0 |bstacks |hDD256.3 |i.R575 2019
