Overview
- Summary
- The intent of this thesis demonstrated how the National Socialist German Workers' Party of Germany attempted to consolidate the German-American element in the United States as a cultural and political force in support of Germany's Third Reich. The thesis focused on the pro-Nazi organization designated the German-American Bund headquartered in the Yorkville area of New York City. The Bund published a weekly newspaper entitled Deutscher Weckruf und Beobachter which contained National Socialistic propaganda directed towards German-Americans between 1936-1938. The Deutscher Weckruf und Beobachter became the propaganda tool and mouthpiece of the Bund and the Nazi movement. This thesis examined the content of the propaganda in order to understand the goals and ambitions of the Bund and why this same propaganda would ultimately destroy the Bund itself.
