In the following decade she became the most influential American woman next to Eleanor Roosevelt. Thompson's extensive network of friends and collaborators included prominent personalities on both sides of the Atlantic: Hamilton Fish Armstrong, Lion Feuchtwanger, Marcel Fodor, Ben Huebsch, Annette Kolb, Fritz Kortner, Thomas Mann, H.L. Mencken, Helmuth James von Moltke, Eugenie Schwarzwald, Christa Winsloe, and Carl Zuckmayer. Her prolific public engagement against Hitler and on behalf of refugees and exiled writers was based on the conviction that one was not possible without the other. A fierce opponent of isolationism, she declared that indifference towards totalitarianism or the refugee crisis would destroy democracy not only abroad but also in the United States. 591 Record updated by Marcive processing 21 June 2024 600 10 Thompson, Dorothy, |d1893-1961 |xCriticism and interpretation. 650 0 National socialism. 650 7 BIOGRAPHY & AUTOBIOGRAPHY |xGeneral. |2bisacsh 650 7 LANGUAGE ARTS & DISCIPLINES |xJournalism. |2bisacsh 600 17 Thompson, Dorothy, |d1893-1961. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst00190143 650 7 National socialism. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01033761 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Criticism, interpretation, etc. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01411635 655 7 Biographies. |2lcgft 776 08 |iPrint version:Tippelskirch, Karina von. |tDorothy Thompson and German writers in defense of democracy. |dBerlin ; New York, NY : Peter Lang, [2018] |z9783631675274 |w(DLC) 2017015148 |w(OCoLC)984743147 830 0 Kulturtransfer und Geschlechterforschung ; |vBd. 10. 856 40 |3EBSCOhost |uhttps://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&db=nlabk&AN=1985983 852 |bebook
