520     The Ustashe of Croatia in W.W.II were one of bloodiest and most violent of all fascist organizations in that war. The atrocities they committed, primarily against the Serb population of Croatia, were horrendous and the legacy of those actions still have repercussions in the present day. By tracing the development of Croat nationalism, the crimes of the Ustashe, and the most recent conflict in the former Yugoslavia (1991-1995) it is possible to discern the cause and effect results of (1) violent nationalism, and (2) genocidal fascism on the people and state of Yugoslavia. The violence that has erupted in Yugoslavia over the course of the past century is the result of a number of differences that exist between two very similar peoples. Once those differences became more important than the similarities, the atrocities of the Ustashe and their legacy were the end result in the former state of Yugoslavia.
