The lives of several families of different social classes in a neighborhood in Warsaw, Poland, are changed by the tragic events of the Nazi occupation. Some documentary footage is included in the film which concludes with a depiction of the ghetto uprising of 1943, when Jews, supported by the Polish underground, take up arms and die fighting.
