520     The "Salvation Army in Germany, 1933-1945," covers the development of the Salvation Army in Germany (Die Heilsarmee) and the history of the organization under National Socialism. The dissertation is divided into seven chapters. Chapter one describe the origins of the Salvation Army in England and the growth of the Heilsarmee. Chapters two through six deal with the Heilsarmee during the Third Reich, and Chapter seven is the conclusion. Chapter one provides an introduction to the subject, discussing the origins and development of the Salvation Army in Great Britain and the development of the Heilsarmee in Germany from its founding in 1886 until 1932. Chapter two covers some of the ways in which the Heilsarmee adapted to life under National Socialism. The Heilsarmee's relationship with the government during the prewar period is dealt with in Chapter three. Chapter four discusses the Heilsarmee within the broader context of religion in Germany and the German Catholic and Evangelical churches. An overview of the Heilsarmee's experiences during the early war years is provided in Chapter five. The Heilsarmee's operations during the war are discussed in Chapter six. And Chapter seven is the conclusion, which provides an analysis of the history of the Heilsarmee.
