Notes
This roster of the 1st Work Group, 2nd Labor Battalion includes 288 Jewish labor conscripts sent home for the winter at the end of 1942, 38 Jewish conscripts who had left the unit earlier, and 38 Bulgarian supervisory and support personnel. Of the 38 Jews who left the group earlier, some were discharged due to student status, some for illness, and some were detailed to another work group at Chepino. Home towns, street addresses, and YOBs are given for each person. The Jews were grouped by previous place of residence; within each residential category the names are generally listed in Cyrillic alphabetical order of the given (first) name. The Jews came mostly from Sofia, Stara Zagora, Plovdiv, Shumen, Razgrad, Yambol, Nevrokop, Vratsa, and Komotini (Gyumyurdzhina), the last-named place situated in Bulgarian-annexed northern Greece. According to a separate memorial list, some of those men listed from Komotini were deported to their deaths at Treblinka in early spring 1943.
