She recalls German occupation in 1940; moving to Haren with her parents and brothers; hiding a Jewish convert to Catholicism, who had escaped from Amsterdam; the family's experiences hiding fifteen other Jews; a train trip with a hidden child who inadvertently revealed she was Jewish and the other passengers promising not to report them; working as a courier for the Dutch underground; one brother being shot by Germans for breaking curfew; and the death of her youngest brother, who was serving in the British army.
