Holocaust testimony (HVT-3095) |h[videorecording] / |cinterviewed by Tammy Genesove, |fNovember 14, 1990. 260 Vancouver, B.C. : |bVancouver Holocaust Centre Society, |c1990. 300 1 videorecording (1 hr., 20 min.) : |bcol. 520 Videotape testimony of Stanley W., who was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1923. He recalls being called into military service in December 1941; posting to England; training as an intelligence officer; arriving in Celle, Germany via Belgium and Holland; hearing about Bergen-Belsen nearby; a Jewish friend who encouraged him to visit; disbelief at the mass graves and condition of the survivors; his friend organizing aid for the survivors; Josef Rosensaft organizing the displaced persons camp; his friend organizing other soldiers to write home for packages and delivering them to the DP camp and eventually assisting survivors to emigrate to Canada; questioning Germans, most of whom denied knowledge of the camp, though one said it was impossible not to know due to the stench for miles around; a picnic for children going to Sweden; and attending a war crime trial. Mr. W. emphasizes the role of his friend who was known as the "angel of Belsen." 562 |e2 copies: |b3/4 in. dub; |band 1/2 in. VHS with time coding. 524 Stanley W. Holocaust Testimony (HVT-3095).
