He recounts being orphaned when he was eight; living with loving grandparents; attending school to become a textile engineer in Kortrijk (Courtrai); distributing Resistance publications and doing reconnaisance for the Front de l'indépendance; arrest in April 1942; incarceration in Courtrai prison; a public trial; a five-month prison sentence; incarceration in St. Gilles and Merxplas; receiving Red Cross packages; visits from his aunt; attending classes; release in August; continuing to work with the Front de l'indépendance; postwar recognition as a Resistant; receiving compensation for arthritis resulting from his imprisonment; and participating in an organization of former political prisoners. 546 This testimony is in French. 524 Achille D.
