She describes her happy, loving home life with her parents on a farm until the Russian invasion in 1939; and her family's escape to Lʹvov in 1940, where she first hid with her parents and later was sent by them to live on a farm with a Polish Catholic. She speaks of her life on the farm, where she pretended to be the Catholic niece of the owner and where she remained until the war ended.
