Julian B. Venezky Collection
- Collection Summary
- Robert Wertheimer donated a collection of films belonging to his late father-in-law, Julian B. Venezky, an American Jew active in efforts to help Holocaust survivors emigrate to the new state of Israel. The films document the United Jewish Appeal’s (UJA) work and missions to Israel in the late 1940s. The footage in Shadows of Hate (a 1947 March of Time production created on behalf of the UJA), UJA Report from Israel (1948), and Visiting the Jewish State (1948) show Jewish displaced persons arriving in Israel, temporary encampments for refugees, and Kibbutz Buchenwald, among other scenes. The collection also contains a reel of private film Venezky shot while on a trip to Israel.
