    Description
    Life at Zeilsheim DP camp (a small German town converted into a DP center), including a protest march and Robinson family members in various settings.

    All footage shot in camp. Fay and Alice play in snow, houses in BG. Joseph (born in Zeilsheim on August 25, 1946) in the baby carriage. Children play near house. Children and adults march, carrying flag of Star of David, in celebration of Lag B'Omer. Robinson family, including parents Ephraim and Sarah and children Fay, Alice, and Joseph, walk past sign "Zeilsheim Assembly Center, UNRRA Team." Robinson family entertains visitors. Children play and dance. Fay's birthday meal at indoor table (Fay is dressed in the dark velvet dress). Outdoor community ceremony, large crowd, number of American soldiers in uniform. Symbol of menorah over doorway as men walk in, small sign to right says library. Large sign over building says "Fachschule ORT." Men behind long dais outside, Jewish police. Various speakers. Men standing on roof with Star of David on it. Zionist anti-British demonstration of mostly men in the streets of town, banners praising Truman, urging right to go to Palestine, American MPs speaking and gesturing to men in crowd, clearly tension present. Large entry gate archway with sign "IRO Assembly Center 557" and welcome banner. Men walk down street, MCU of group of children who wait for these men.

    Biography
    Ephraim Mayer Robinson (originally from Warsaw, Poland) and his wife Sarah (originally from Bessarabia) returned from Uzbekistan to Sarah's home town Romanovka in Bessarabia near the end of the war. From there, they hopped the border as refugees. The Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society sent them to the Zeilsheim DP camp in October 1945.

    Film Provenance
    Alice Lev, the cameraman's daughter, donated an album of photos of Zeilsheim DP camp to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Photo Archives and sent the 16mm film reel to the Museum's Steven Spielberg Film and Video Archive in May 1992. Ms. Lev officially donated the footage in June 2005.
