Film | Accession Number: 1992.260.1 | RG Number: RG-60.0711 | Film ID: 250

In Sicily, "Grand-domed building contrasts with close-set houses crowding the streets of the poorer section of town." In Naples, Italy, pan down large elaborate building. Monuments and statues. Cut to slums of Rome, narrow streets, laundry hangs above, visibly poorer conditions, children in tattered clothing play. CU boy on sidewalk. "Many fountains and troughs in the cities serve a useful purpose, while others are merely ornamental or erected as memorials." Horse carrying load stands next to fountain. View of elaborate fountain that attracts spectators. "Naples, after Genoa, is Italy's most important seaport." Boat/ship on sea. "In the Old Town...roads narrow and the sanitary and health conditions are very bad." View of tenements, laundry hanging. Appears very dirty. Street scene. Carts. "The sun seldom reaches the pavement in many of these streets and in several it is never seen." Shots of slums, women, children, laundry.
