    04:40:48 (LIB 6127) Stuttgart, Germany, April 29, 1945. SEQ: German civilians carry bricks and rubble and build a barricade around French MG position at street intersection. CU, French soldier directs work of Germans.

    04:44:13 (LIB 6128) May Day - Stalag #6, Hemmer, Germany, May 1, 1945. HAS, MS pan Russian POWs hold May Day celebration in POW camp Stalag 6, after liberation by US forces. CU, Russian soldiers carrying sign in Russian and English: "Long live the American Army which liberated us from Nazi captivity." Cut-ins, still portraits of Stalin, Truman, Churchill, Lenin, Zhukov. LS, speakers on platform with portraits. LS, US Maj Gen Ray E. Porter (75th Inf Div), Maj N Mironof (wearing white uniform - Camp Commandant), and other Russian officials on speakers' platform. CUs, assembled Russian prisoners. CUs, Russian nurses march past review stand. Russian army band passes in review. VS, American C rations and cigarettes are issued to released prisoners.

    Lt. John Thomas Cooney, Jr., the aide-de-camp to Major General Ray E. Porter, Commanding General of the 75th Infantry Division from December 1944 until June 1945, appears in this footage standing at attention at the rear of the reviewing stand on Gen. Porter's left at 04:44:32, 04:45:03, and 04:45:51. See departmental files and attachment for a 1945 photograph of Lt. John T. Cooney, Jr.
