    Description
    (LIB 6276) Former POW hospital complex now occupied by American troops from the 666th Medical Collecting Company. The CUs of patients are former Soviet soldiers. Malnourished former prisoners of war stare at camera from hospital beds. CU of emaciated body. 00:00:27 Wounded man with amputated leg lies crying in bed. CU of injury. Former prisoner still in striped uniform in bed. 00:01:00 Hospital complex. Soldiers relax on lawn. One has a bandage covering his eye. Group posing. Soldiers look at sky. The complex. 00:02:04 Sign reads "Prov. PWX Hospital Hamm." The letters "PWX" overlay the original "POW," indicating that the complex now acts as a place to care for and evacuate former Allied POWs after taking over Axis territories. 00:02:13 An emaciated patient undergoing physical therapy. Doctor removes patient's shirt to show camera how weak he has become as a POW. 00:02:58 Patient speaks to cameraman and cries from hospital bed.

    00:03:15 (LIB 6277) A large group of German POWs march to an Allied camp. Villagers watch procession from a distance. Some POWs smile at camera, eat, or smoke. 00:04:09 Slate "2000 PW" with cameraman Sizer.

    00:04:17 (LIB 6278) FORMER SA HQS, Dusseldorf, Germany, 3 May 1945. Soldiers patrol the outside of the former SA headquarters. Civilians walk and ride bikes on the streets. CUs of statues outside headquarters. INT, headquarters. Posters and paraphernalia litter the floor. A soldier rummages through abandoned documents and military gear. Upside down slate showing R. Joyce as cameraman.

Members stand in chow line and eat. Prisoners of war are also fed. CUs, men eating. A Russian captain and former POW talks to US soldiers. CUs, Russian captain drinking and talking. Reel #2 slate. US troops light the Russian captain's cigar. Men talk. 00:06:50 Village women and children watch campsite from their yard. 00:06:52 Motorcycle and trucks move out. 00:07:09 Village with signs pointing to "Oberdiessen," a village in Bavaria, and "Unterdiessen L. Kr. Kaufbeuren." The countryside and US troops searching homes. A white surrender flag hangs from a pole (00:07:48). 00:08:00 US troops and the Russian captain question villagers. The Russian captain wields a handgun, and village children keep their back to the soldiers. 00:08:06 Another white flag hangs outside a home. 00:08:10 A soldier digs a hole outside a house. Soldiers and villagers watch as they unearth helmets and small weapons. A villager is forced to dig up all of the hidden arms.
