"Ausklang des heldenmütigen Ringens um Polen" [Concluding the Heroic struggle for Poland]

"Staatsbegräbnis für den bei Warschau gefallenen Generaloberst Freiherrn von Fritsch" State funeral for von Fritsch in Berlin, Germany on September 26, 1939. Statue, funeral procession. CU of coffin covered in flowers, Nazi banners. Procession of military officials, civilians at a public square. Large group of soldiers stand at attention, flags are lowered near the coffin. CU of Nazi official.

"Zielbewusst und rasch, wie die deutsche Wehrmacht zuschlug, vollendet die deutsche Staatsführung das Werk der Soldaten. Der Reichsminister des Auswärtigen von Ribbentrop reist zum zweiten Male zu weiteren Besprechungen nach Moskau." Plane, with propellers running, Grenzmark. Men greet, salute each other, including German Foreign Minister, Joachim von Ribbentrop, cars are parked behind them with Nazi flags. Men board plane marked "D-ACVH."

"Das Ergebnis dieser Reise: Eine Abgrenzung des beiderseitigen Interessengebietes in Polen und eine endgültige Befestigung der deutsch-russischen Freundschaft" Map. Newspaper headlines: "Dauerfrieden in Ost-Europa London und Paris von Deutschland und Rußland vor die Entscheidung gestellt."

"Der Führer empfing den neuernannten türkischen Botschafter zur Ueberreichung seines Beglaubigungs-schreibens." Two cars drop off the visiting officials in a courtyard. They greet Nazi officials and enter a building.

"Der italienische Aufzenminister Graf Ciano trifft zu einer Besprechung in Berlin ein." Italian Foreign Minister Ciano goes to a meeting in Berlin and salutes the crowd. Motorcade with large crowd of onlookers. Police hold back a group rushing forward on the street. CUs of Ciano waving to the crowd from the car.

"Trotz gewaltiger militärischer Anstrengungen und ernster diplomatischer Entscheidungen gehen Leben und Arbeit in Stadt und Land vollig unverandert weiter." "Selbst der Sport kennt keine Unterbrechung. Massenbesuch beim hindernisrennen in karlshorst." INTs, large crowd, men place their bets at the ticket counter. A bell is rung, the horse race begins. Well-dressed attendees. Horses jump over obstacles in slow-motion. The crowd applauds.

"50000 Zuschauer gab es im Norden der Reichshauptstadt bei dem großen Radrennen der Berliner Vereinsstaffel." CUs of legs on bicycle pedals, the race about to begin in Berlin. Cyclists take off, CUs of young boys, men, families cheering them on. The winner of the race comes to a stop amidst a large crowd.

"Die deutsche Jugend ist im Frontabschnitt heimat für wichtige Aufgaben eingesetzt. Hier hitlerjugend bei der Ausbildung für den ländlichen Feuerwehrdienst." Hitler Youth boys wearing helmets and HJ uniforms train for the rural fire service. They push a covered fire carriage out of the station, younger group pushes a smaller cart behind them; all smile exuberantly for the camera. Senior firemen rwork together with the boys to operate a hose, pump water and put out a fire.

"Andere helfen bei der hackfruchternte mit." Another group of Hitler Youth boys harvest potatoes in a field. An older man surveilles.

"Freiwillige helfer aus hagenbesch Tierpark" Volunteers till the soil of a field with the help of elephants and camels.

"Auch handel und Wandel vollziehen sich sast im gleichen Umfang wie in friedlichen Tagen. hier einige Bilder von einem Dichmarkt in Oberbayern." At a market in Upper Bavaria, a large assembly of cattle. Men select cattle for trade/purchase. CUs of cows, calves, men examining the cows' teeth, money changing hands. A woman examines a small pig, laughing.

"Die Mädel des B.d.M. besuchten die verwundeten Soldaten und brachten ihnen Blumen." BdM girls dressed in uniforms carry bouquets of flowers, two Nazi officials stand by. The girls visit hospitalized soldiers in a ward, give them flowers, and smile for the camera.

"Zurück nach Polen: Das schwierigste Problem, vor das sich unsere Zivilverwaltung in den besetzten Gebieten gestellt sieht, ist die Judenfrage, hier einige Ghetto-Typen!" [Back to Poland: The most difficult problem facing our civil administration in the occupied territories is the Jewish question. Here's some ghetto-types!] Very good shots of Polish Jews after the German occupation of Poland. A group of elderly Jewish men and young children stand on the street and look at the camera. An older Jew walks with a cane on the street amid smoke and rubble. CUs of Jewish men with beards, filmed from above. Men in long lines. Some are forced to shovel dirt amid the rubble and dig a trench, a car and bicycles pass by on a bridge behind the men at work.
