    Overview

    Collection Summary
The collection documents the prewar and wartime experiences of Elise and Leo Heymann and their children Ernst (b. 1924) and Lieselotte (later Lillian Aizuss, 1928-2017) who immigrated to the United States from Duisberg, Germany in November 1938. Includes records related to Leo’s World War I service, immigration documents, correspondence, passports, and photographs. Some correspondence includes letters from family members who were murdered in the Holocaust. Also included are two daily prayer books from the late 1800s bearing inscriptions from Leo Heymann's grandparents.
    Provenance
The collection was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2012 by Lillian Aizuss, the daughter of Elise and Leo Heymann
