    Melanya Bushuyeva, born in 1922 in the Soviet Union (present day Russia), describes her work as a milkmaid; the arrival of evacuees from Leningrad; the poor treatment of local townspeople by partisans, including instances sexual assault and murder; the actions of local police under the German occupation; the advance of Soviet forces; and the lack of punishment for local collaborators after the war.
