Adam Beer, born on February 25, 1922 in Liptovský Mikuláš, Czechoslovakia (Slovakia), describes his town and family life; participating in Zionist Youth activities; beginning to face restrictions as a Jew in Slovakia in March 1939; the deportations of his sister and other friends and acquaintances that began in 1942; joining a group of partisans in the Carpathian Mountains and participating in the Slovakian Uprising of August 1944; his liberation by the Soviet Army in April 1945; and immigrating to the United States in July 1948.
