Rev. James Burwell Ficklen III collection

The collection consists of photographs and letters sent home to the United States about the liberation of the Ohrdruf concentration camp. Photographs include buildings, gate posts, fences, guard platforms, corpses, burial details, and graves. The letter presents an eyewitness account of the conditions at the Ohrdruf labor camp shortly after liberation and provide details of the execution of prisoners and the processes used to dispose of the bodies. Reference is made to the physical condition of the prisoners who were still alive at the Allied takeover.
