    Margaretta Fisse, born in Slovenia, discusses her experiences as a resident of the Safe Haven Refugee Camp; her first impressions of the camp, which were initially negative because it was surrounded by a fence; her time in the camp, including recreational activities and school; the theatre and music productions performed at the camp, led by Charles Abeles and Leon Levitch; seeing Safe Haven as a stepping stone to life in the US; and her appreciation for being in the US.

    The interview with Margareta Fisse was conducted on August 6, 1994 by Safe Haven, Inc. as part of a project documenting the testimonies of refugees from the Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Shelter in Oswego, NY. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum received a copy of the interview in April 1996.
