Description: The collection contains gelatin-silver photographs of the liberation of Buchenwald concentration camp in 1945. The photographs include scenes of camp buildings, instruments of torture, lamp shades made by Ilse Koch, newly freed prisoners of the concentration camps, bodies of camp victims, human remains, Allied soldiers within the camps, crematoriums, and prisoners displaying their tattooed numbers. The photographs were created by members of the United States Air Force 30th Photo Reconnaissance Squadron in 1945.
