    Interview Summary
    Rene Lichtman, born in Paris, France, discusses his parent, who moved to Paris from Poland in the 1930s; his parents hiring Ann Lapage to serve as Rene's guardian in 1937; spending weekdays hidden with the Lapages in a small town outside of Paris and returning home on the weekends; his father joining the French army shortly before the outbreak of the war and his father’s death in May 1940; the occupation of France, after which Rene's mother sent him to stay with the Lapages on a permanent basis while she was in hiding for the remainder of the war; returning to Paris after the war and reuniting with his mother; being introduced to his Jewish heritage; and his memories of the French Jewish community in Paris.
