    Alfred Virski, born on July 27, 1919 in Kraków, Poland, discusses his family and childhood; joining the Polish army; the German invasion of Poland in 1939 and his experiences fighting; his capture by the Soviet Army during the same year and his forced military service; his experiences as part of the Soviet Army; his injuries; his decision to escape; his journey by train to Tashkent, Uzbekistan in February 1942; his service with the Free Polish Army; his journey with the Army through Iran, Iraq, Palestine, and Egypt; his unit's alliance with the United States Army; his experiences fighting in Egypt and Italy; his political leanings before and after the war; his thoughts about the Soviet Union; the relations between Jews and Poles prior to the war; and the book he wrote about his experiences called “My Life in the Red Army”.
