    Biography
David Wittner (1919-2006) was born in New York City and served with the 328th Infantry Regiment of the 26th Infantry Division during World War II. He was married to Florence Cohen Wittner, daughter of Isaac Cohen and Rebecca Mardenfeld Cohen. While stationed in Linz during the war, Wittner visited Nuremberg in an effort to locate Rebecca Cohen’s nephew, Abraham Weiner (1905-1945). He found Robert Rensch, a fellow inmate of Weiner’s at Buchenwald, who informed Wittner that Weiner died of typhus at Buchenwald on May 4 or 5, 1945, shortly after liberation, and was given a Jewish burial.
