    Interview Summary
    Harry Weininger, born on September 28, 1933 in Czernowitz, Romania (now Chernivitsi, Ukraine), discusses his childhood in Czernowicz; his memories of the anti-Jewish restrictions imposed by Romanian fascists; the brief Soviet occupation of his town, followed by its occupation by Nazi troops in 1939; the family's move to a ghetto; their narrow escape from deportation; being allowed to return to their home; his escape from other deportations, including one to Transnistria; the town's liberation by Soviet troops; the family's move to Bucharest; his move to a Jewish camp in Holland where he was trained by the Haganah in anticipation of a move to Palestine; his parents' refusal to allow him to emigrate; the family's reunion in Vienna, Austria; his immigration to the United States in 1950; his high school education; attending the University of Chicago and law school at the University of San Francisco; and his career and family life in the United States.
