Margit Subak Elsohn, originally of Trebic, Czechoslovakia, describes being married in May 1939; living in Prague when the German army invaded the city; her husband joining the Czech army; her marriage ending; fleeing to Paris, France; reuniting with her sister, Gerda Grunberger, and her nephews; traveling with her sister and her family to Marseille after the French capitulation; crossing the French border in Cerbere by taking a path over the Pyrenees to Portbou, Spain; receiving American visas; and leaving Lisbon, Portugal for the United States in December 1940.
