- “Mladá Vožice” (a town in the South Bohemian region of Czechoslovakia) “Za kvěnové revoluce a v prvých měsících osvobozené republiky” Hay fields move in the wind, farmland in the BG. Houses on a small hill, grove of trees. In the small Czech town, clocktower next to a building: "JG. SYNEK.” Small statue. Large white building, people walk up the front path. A horse and wagon along a road, a woman walks behind. Two church domes above the treetops. People in another part of town. Church from a different angle. Man walks toward the camera, bell-tower. Houses. Trees. Church. Clouds roll overhead. Another shot of the church and the steeple. A woman walks up to the doorway, and a cat. Houses in the town and fields. River in the landscape.
Czech intertitle: “U noci ze 4. na 6. května 1945 došly prvé zprávy o tom, že v Praze bylo započato se snímáním německých nápisů. Po poledni z rozhlasu dozvě-děla se Mladá Vožice o prvých.” Text scrolls up. “Bojích o rozhlas a s jásotem pochopila, že konec šesti-lelého německého útisku. Občanstvo ihned započalo s odstraňováním německých nápisů, které tehdy hyzdily i úplně českou Ml. Vožici, stejně jako ušechny obce re-publiky.” Man removes the Nazi signs in German from the side of a building. It takes multiple attempts to pull it off, and then he throws it to the ground. Intertitle: “U krátké chuíli ozdobil lid ušechny domy prapory republiky, které šťastně u úkrytu přečkaly dobu oku-pace a rudými prapory na počest velikého slo-vanského spojence a přítele Č.S.R. Oyšel do ulic, kde pod prapory již pro-cházely průvody, které u sochy knížete Václava zazpívaly státni hymny.” Czechs stand in a muddy townsquare. Some have umbrellas. A group marches, holding flags. Sign in BG “KAUFHAUS K. MOSE.” People sing. One person holds an American flag. A band marches through town and locals watch and celebrate liberation in May 1945, many with umbrellas. Flag holders and people in the crowd. “Vlády ve městě uchopil se Národní výbor, již dlouho před tímto památrým drem utvořený.” Leaders of government stand side-by-side in a garden. Church steeples above the treetops in the BG. “Jménem Národního výboru ke shromážděnému lidu pro-mluvil jeho rejstarší člen Mistr Ota Bubeníček.” Three men stand on the upper balcony of the building in the main square. It's 4:10 PM. Ota Bubeníček speaking to the crowd. A Czech flag flies from the balcony. The crowd watches. Three flags. Spectators cheer, their hands up in the air. “Jlněv lidu obrátil se pak proti zrádcům z českých řad, kteří byli ihned zajišťováni.” Czech Nazi collaborators are paraded through town, and beaten. CU, man's bloodied face. Fights break out. The crowd becomes rambunctious. Czech intertitle. Crowd of locals. HAS, collaborators lined up before the locals. CU, elder with a long white beard speaks with someone in charge. Long Czech intertitle with names of men in the Czech resistance (see Notes). The men in suits stand for CUs in front of a tree. One lights a cigarette. They look at the camera, posing individually. They talk, smile, and laugh.
Another long intertitle describing the dramatic events following the arrival of SS troops into the city (see Notes). Bus moves through Mladá Vožice, followed by military trucks, cars, and motorcycles of German soldiers on May 8. Intertitle: “Ve středu 8. Května 1945 ústup pokračoval, telefo-nisti hlásí, že Rusové jsou v Pelhřimově a blizí se k Vlašimi.” Shop window with a Soviet flag, Czech flag, and a small bust of a man in the middle. Vehicles full of liberating soldiers drive through town. Men are piled high into some of the trucks, hanging off of the sides. The vehicles continue driving through town. People push a car up the road. Two men ride through in a horse-drawn wagon. Intertitle: “Němci zahasují zbraně, které jsou odnášeny - Národnímu výboru.” MSs, men walk past spectators, some carrying guns. “Odpoledne přijíždějí první jednotky ruské, které jsou nadšeně vítány.” A soldier leaning with one foot against a car shakes the hand of a man with a long white beard in celebration. Two men in uniform raise their fists in the air. One holds a bouquet in the air.
“Hukovník Boris Grigoriev. Vladimirov, velitel projíz-dějící dělostřelecke brigá-dy, prvý ruský host Nár. Výboru, který Ml. Vožici a Šelemberk později ně-kolikrát navštívil.” An important Soviet colonel visits the small town. He arrives in a car with a young woman. Intertitle: “Jiný plukovník, jehož oddíly projízděly Mladou Vožicí současně s oddíly plukovníka Vladimírova.” HAS of the liberating soldiers in town. Crowd waves. Two women lean out of a window and smile, another face behind them. A soldier speaks to the camera. More of the cars driving out. Men sitting on top of a truck wave to the camera. Celebrating the Soviet liberators. Brief end title: “Ve čtvrtek 9. 5. 1945 od rána za zvuků hudby pro-jíždějí Rusové, kteří spě-chají k Vltavě - vstříc Američanům.”
