    Interview Summary
    Joseph Fishman, born on February 10, 1925 in Sighet, Romania, discusses learning to tailor at the advice of his father; the Hungarian occupation; forced labor; living in Sighet ghetto in early 1944; deportation with his family’s to Auschwitz concentration camp in May 1944; the train ride and arrival; Josef Mengele and selection; deportation to Wolfsberg in June 1944; death march; falling in the snow; being put on a wagon for the dead; riding the rest of way in the wagon to an unnamed camp; internment at the unnamed camp from February to April 1945; being taken with a group who couldn’t walk to another camp; finding someone from his hometown who sent him extra rations; liberation by the Soviets; being nursed to health; returning home; finding out his sister was in Bergen-Belsen displaced persons camp (she had gone to Sweden by time he got there); living in Bergen-Belsen DP camp from 1945 to 1948; immigrating to Canada in 1948; and reuniting with his sister in Canada.
