    Interview Summary
    Joseph Hoffman, born on November 21, 1914 in Dubove, Czechoslovakia, discusses owning a grocery store; good relations with non-Jews; the Hungarian occupation; his deportation to a labor camp in April 1940; returning home in 1941; the taking away of his owner’s license; being deported again to a labor camp at the end of 1942 until August 1943; Hungarians taking himself and other prisoners to Russia for labor; many interactions with partisans; internment in Mauthausen concentration camp for three months at the end of the war; going to Prague postwar; reuniting with two of his brothers; meeting his wife, Fany Hoffman; living in a displaced persons camp in Germany in 1945; immigrating to Israel in 1948; and immigrating to the United States on June 21, 1961.

    The Gratz College Holocaust Oral History Archive donated the interview to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2017. The interview was recorded for the American Gathering of Holocaust Survivors in 1985.
