    Interview Summary
    Erika Lowenthal Reis, born on December 29, 1929, in Plauen, Germany, discusses her parents Egon Joachim Leventhal and Charlotte Rosenwald Lowenthal; her father who was a judge and lost his position in 1935; her brother Herbert; immigrating with her family to the United States in 1936 with assistance from their American relatives through the Rosenwald Family Association; her maternal grandfather’s brother, Julius Rosenwald, who owned Sears Roebuck in Chicago, IL; how Julius Rosenwald’s son, William, travelled to Germany in 1935 to encourage all the relatives to immigrate to the US and he was able to sponsor the entire family of 125 people; and her paternal grandfather remaining behind in Germany and perishing in Bergen-Belsen.
